Admission into the AMTA Program
An admissions committee reviews the qualifications of applicants and determines admission to the master's degree programs. Important factors include previous academic experience and performance, managerial work experience, and professional objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree from a four-year regionally accredited U.S. undergraduate institution or recognized foreign college or university. Official transcrips are required from each college or university attended.
- Three letters of recommendation from employers and/or faculty members
- Resume or CV
- Statement of professional career goals
- Completed online application form with a nonrefundable application fee
- Either the GRE or GMAT Test we accepted (Only one standardized test is required with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8)
- GW Institution Code: 5246 for GRE – QK4-4F-64 for GMAT
- An overall score of 1200 is required for the GRE (Verbal and Quantitative) and 4.5-6 for Analytical writing
- If submitting the GMAT a minimum 500 out of 800 score is required
- At least three years of experience within the hospitality and tourism industry
- International students originating from countries where English is not the official language will be required to take the TOEFL exam (minimum score 600 for paper version, 250 for computerized version)

- Attend Inaugural Residency period.
Academic records that are not in English must have a certified English translation provided. International students must provide a credential evaluation of their transcripts that verify the equivalence of a US officially recognized four year undergraduate degree.

You will need to create an account and password within the application system in order to receive a PIN that will permit you to proceed.
The application process includes several forms:
- The Application form
- Transcript Request forms
- Letter of Recommendation forms
Apart from your Official Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation, the online Application form itself has several parts:
- General Information (personal & contact info)
- Admissions Information
- Attendance information: fulltime
- Campus Location: "Off- Campus" and then "Distance Education"
- School: School of Business (This will trigger your choices for the next few fields)
- Intended Field of Study: Master of Tourism Administration
- Intended Concentration: choose one
- Intended Degree: MTA-102

Fees
A registration fee of $35 per semester is also required. Upon acceptance as a degree candidate, the university requires an admission deposit of $200 which serves as a confirmation of your decision to attend The George Washington University. This admission deposit will be applied to your first tuition bill.
Technology Requirements and Recommendations
A computer (min. Pentium-class with 128 megabytes of RAM; 256 MB of RAM is recommended) with Internet connection and audio speakers is mandatory for this program. A high speed Internet connection is strongly recommended (Cable modem, DSL, T-1, etc). Dial up access is acceptable, but not the best option for downloading. Windows 98 or higher is required (Windows 2000 or XP is recommended) with up-to date word-processing, presentation software, and Internet browser. MS Office 2000 or better is strongly recommended. MS Front Page is required. This is included in some versions of MS Office 2000. Acrobat Reader is required (can be downloaded for free from the Internet). A program to compress and expand files using the ZIP protocol such as WinZip is required. A working knowledge of word processing and Internet browsing is assumed.
