Event and Meeting Management Concentration

The Event and Meeting Management Concentration is for students interested in the theoretical and practical aspects of event and meeting management, including research, design, planning, coordination, and evaluation of events and meetings of various types and sizes. Students study best practices in promotion, organization, and risk management of events and meetings. Emphasis is placed on the management competencies required for successful event and meeting professionals.

Objectives

  • Learn best practices for planning, designing, and managing events and meetings of various types, sizes, and complexity.
  • Develop an awareness of the event and meeting industry, including meetings, conventions, conferences, expositions, special events, and more.
  • Gain knowledge of current professional development opportunities and best practices in the event and meeting industry.
  • Conduct effective event and meeting management research, including needs assessment, situation analysis, and feasibility study.
  • Enhance event and meeting management education through internship experience.

    Concepts and techniques employed in marketing travel industry products and

    services, including its public- and private-sector components. Assessment of the

    tourism product, development of marketing strategy, preparation of marketing plan,

    and analysis of promotion programs. (Fall)

    266 Sport and Event Facility Management (3)

    Examination of finance, development, and operation of sport and event facilities.

    Facility operations, including maintenance, special event bookings, foodservice and

    concessions, ticket sales, and corporate sponsorship. (Spring)

    An introduction to the theoretical and practical foundations of event management.

    Fundamentals of planning, budgeting, and evaluating events. (Fall)

    278 Conference and Exposition Management (3)

    Site selection, program planning and management, exhibits, selection and use of

    facility, volunteers, and budget management. (Spring)
